Lawrence "Babe" Silver

LAWRENCE (Babe) SILVER of Drexel Hill, PA passed away on May 16, 2022. He was the loving, caring husband of 66 years with Shirley Betty Silver (nee Apfelbaum). Father of Cindy (Domenic) Martino and Elliot (Devorah) Silver. Brother of Leon Silver. Grandfather (Pop Pop) of Rachel (Wayne Zebley) Thompson, Will Thompson, Domenic Martino IV and Danielle Minton. Great grandfather of Zoe, Wyatt and Laila Zebley, and Emma Minton.

Lawrence served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He continued work with fellow veterans to get the Merchant Marines acknowledged as a branch of the military. After retirement from the Delaware River Port Authority, he enjoyed the last 30 years of his life spending time with his family which he loved deeply.

A Private Graveside service will be held on Friday at 11:30 AM precisely at Montefiore Cemetery, 600 Church Road, Jenkintown, PA 19046 (Sec. PA-G). Contributions in his memory may be made to American Merchant Marine Veterans, www.ammv.us or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
