Laurie Beth Goldman, age 74, beloved mother of Hannah and Lillian, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 14, 2024, at her home in Wynnewood, PA, with her daughters by her side.
Laurie Beth was born in Philadelphia and raised just outside Jenkintown in Abington Township in an often zany household that included her parents, Lee and Carol Goldman, five younger siblings, and a varied assortment of pets. Her contribution to the menagerie was a hyperactive squirrel monkey named Damian.
In her youth, she loved horseback riding, playing the clarinet and saxophone, and spending summers at camp in Maine.
After graduating Abington High School, Laurie Beth attended her parents’ alma mater, the University of Pennsylvania. It was a wild time to be a young adult, and she enjoyed the ride, even attempting to get to the Woodstock Music Festival in 1969, only to get stuck in the legendary, miles-long traffic jam. She graduated in 1971 and later received an MBA from Temple University.
After graduation, she worked in journalism before moving to a job in human resources at Colgate-Palmolive. In the early 1990s, she was the marketing director for the historic New Hope & Ivyland Railroad in New Hope, PA, as a key member of the team leading its successful relaunch as a tourist attraction.
In 1998, she adopted Hannah and Lillian and poured all of her love into raising them.
Art was Laurie Beth’s lifelong passion. A day at a museum was always blissful. She started painting in her teens as a way to express herself, and never stopped. Many of her paintings adorn her house while others were shared with family and friends, and sold at fundraising events at her synagogue.
Laurie Beth was a member of the Adath Israel congregation where she often volunteered her time.
She is survived by her daughters, Hannah and Lillian Goldman Muller, and her siblings, Ira Goldman, Jon Goldman, Wendy McSweeney, Mike Goldman and Chaim Goldman.
The funeral service will be held at 11 am, Sunday, Oct. 20, 2024, at Goldsteins’ Funeral Home, 6410 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, followed by interment at Har Nebo cemetery.
Contributions in her memory may be made to Dementia Society of America.
