Larry Ross, age 88 of Philadelphia, died peacefully at home on February 5, 2025. Born in Coney Island, New York in 1936, to parents Edward and Lena, Larry attended PS 188, Mark Twain Jr. High School, and the Manhattan High School of Aviation Trades. He grew up alongside his sisters Deena and Sheila, and together they enjoyed idyllic summers at Coney Island beach. At the age of 17, Larry joined the Air Force where he served during the Korean War. While serving, Larry participated casually in the theater and was soon hooked. Upon completing his service, he returned home where he built a career as an actor, dancer, singer and teacher of the performing arts. Larry was a cast member in Broadway productions including Fiddler on the Roof , How to Succeed in Business… and Annie . He also performed in numerous off-Broadway productions. In 1979, Larry and his then-wife had their son, Michael. Larry took special joy in fatherhood, singing show tunes in the car and bringing Michael to Mets games. He married Susan in 1993, and together they enjoyed passions including dance, theater, and travel. Favorite destinations included Paris and Buenos Aires, where they built friendships with locals. Later in life, Larry became involved with the Chabad community, both in New York and Philadelphia where he deepened his connection to Judaism through the practice of prayer and the study of tradition. Larry served his country and he served his faith. His family will remember him for his talent, humor and humility. He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Susan, sister Deena, and son Michael (Christina). He is also survived by his stepchildren Deb (Deb), Pam (Ethan) and Karyn (David), and grandchildren Zee, Ryn, Cecily, and Anderson. Memorial donations can be made in Larry’s honor to B'nai Abraham Chabad, 527 Lombard Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147 or Dancers Over 40 at www.dancersover40.org
