Joyce Helene Rubin

JOYCE HELENE RUBIN, peacefully passed away on March 12, 2025. Beloved Wife of the late Harry Aaron Rubin,Esq. Loving Mother of David (Jennifer), Lee (Susan Grous), and the late Gary Rubin. Doting Mom-Mom to Brandon, Jake, Sydney, Perri, Hayden, and Reese. Popular Aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by siblings, Charles, Bea, and Stella.

Joyce was born in the Strawberry Mansion section of Philadelphia. She was raised by a single Mother, Louise, due the untimely death of her father, Nathan, when Joyce was very young. Despite this challenge, she graduated with honors from Olney High School and eventually enrolled as a student at Temple University. Joyce was proudly the only woman in her Accounting major, taking classes at night, while holding down a full time job.

Her upbringing was always a source of no-nonsense, hard-nosed wisdom that she imparted to her children and grandchildren.

She was working as a secretary in the Philadelphia office of the Boy Scouts of America, where she met, worked with, and eventually fell in love with their legal counsel, Harry. Joyce and Harry enjoyed over 40 years of marriage, sharing many nachas together, traveling the world with family and friends, and seeing many Broadway shows.

Joyce loved travel. She embarked on overseas trips through her 80’s and kept a journal of all her adventures. She always enjoyed writing. She was a long-time active member of Hadassah, in charge of writing her chapter’s weekly newsletters. She also applied her creative energy to designing and constructing stained glass art, which she would proudly display and gift to her family and friends.

She was an excellent bowler, participating in her bowling league, and routinely outscoring her children into her late 60’s.

She spent her Summers at the Jersey shore at the water’s edge, under the pier. She loved hanging out with her “crew” on the Margate beach, bike riding on the boardwalk, and she had a passion for garage sales, where she had a talent for snooping out underappreciated antiques, which she loved to collect.

Joyce had her own unique fashion style, particularly when it came to her distinctive hats, while others may have preferred more traditional headwear, Joyce's playful hats became a symbol of her personality, sparked conversations, evoked laughter, and brightened every room she entered.
