John B. Williams, 79, of Collingdale, Pennsylvania, passed away on August 24, 2024. John was born in Baltimore, Maryland to John and Mae Williams. He was raised in Roanoke, Virginia where he was the oldest of seven children. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1963.
John married the love of his life, Gloria (McCulley) on April 12, 1963. They were happily married for 40 years until her passing. John and Gloria established their home at Mt. Lebanon Cemetery where he served as the Superintendent since 1974. John and Gloria raised their three children John, Dwayne, and Pamela.
Over his 50 years at Mr. Lebanon Cemetery, hundreds of workers spent their summers cutting grass for Mr. Will. He coached baseball and basketball for St. Joseph’s CYO and the Briarcliffe Athletic Association. John enjoyed traveling to Virginia to spend time with his sister, Florence, and his brother-in-law Marvin where they enjoyed many Virginia Tech football games. John enjoyed watching sports with his friends at Brennan’s.
John is preceded in death by his wife Gloria and his son Dwayne. John is survived by his daughter Pamela Kay (Darrell); his son John (Judy); his granddaughter, Jessica; and his grandsons Dante and Lucas; and his sister, Florence. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Jessica recognized him by his Virginia Tech hat, and he cherished going to lunch and dinner with Dante and Lucas. John also enjoyed spending time with his neighbors who became family, Jim and Terry Ruane and their children, Chris, Danny, and Jami.
A service will be held at O’Leary’s Funeral Home, 640 E Springfield Road, Springfield, Pa. 19064 on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to pay their respects. John preferred jeans and a hat, please come dressed casually; show pride in your favorite sports team, or wear maroon and orange for Virginia Tech. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of John Williams may be made in support of Jessica Kay to Overbrook School for the Blind.
