Dr. Joel D. Jaffe passed away on October 18, 2026. Born on December 19, 1949 in Philadelphia, PA to Michael and Thelma Jaffe, he dedicated his life to helping and healing people.
Joel earned a Bachelor of Science from Pennsylvania State University in 1971 and a Doctor of Medicine from Temple University in 1975. Joel chose to remain at Temple to complete his internship and general surgical residency, where he specialized in Otorhinolaryngology.
Joel’s career spanned 45 years, where he spent the beginning dedicated to caring for children at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children while establishing and expanding his practice to treat patients of all ages in the Philadelphia and Central Jersey area. Known for his warmth and compassion that matched his expertise and technical skills, he brought comfort to families during their most difficult moments. Beyond the operating room, Joel loved to fly an airplane, play golf and collect jokes he could retell over and over again, but mostly adored spending time with his family and friends.
Joel leaves behind a legacy of healing, love, and laughter and is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mona; his brother, Jerry (Jane); his children, Matt (Rebecca) and Dana (James); and his grandchildren, Leah and Seth.
A celebration of life will take place on October 21, 2026 at Congregation Shir Ami. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
