JoAnne K. Lyons, of Warminster, Pa., formerly of Lewisburg for 68 years, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023.
Born Oct. 21, 1926, she was a daughter of Max and Anna Kranich and beloved wife of the late Robert Lyons, whom she met while they were students at Penn State, both graduating in 1948. On July 11 of that year, they were married in Harrisburg, JoAnne's hometown. They moved to Lewisburg in 1950 and opened The Lyons Shop, a popular women's apparel store, once featured in Cosmopolitan magazine. JoAnne was an avid Penn State football and Bucknell basketball fan.
She was smart, feisty, strong-willed, gracious and generous. She had her own style and was fabulously fashionable. JoAnne cherished nothing more than time spent with family (except maybe playing bridge, dancing with her husband, or a good book or puzzle), especially in Avalon, N.J. and during the large Thanksgiving dinners in her home. JoAnne volunteered at Evangelical Community Hospital and for Meals on Wheels, was a decades long member of Congregation Beth El, Sunbury, and together with her husband, traveled extensively here and abroad.
JoAnne is survived by her children, Andrew D. Lyons (Susan), of Lewisburg, John K. Lyons (Linda), of Dresher, Pa., Douglas B. Lyons (Amy), of Westford, Mass., and Amy Payne (Gary), of Daytona Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Emily Weniger (Michael), Kathryn Lyons (Peter Elsbeck), Erica Lyons (José Gregório), Daniel Lyons (Caitlin), Jeffrey Lyons (Aria), Zachary Lyons, James Kemler (Vanessa), and Jonah Mull (Kimberly Law); and her great-grandchildren, Audrey, Liv, Norah, Lainey, Jack and Logan; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Kranich; and her beloved grandson, Thomas B. Lyons.
Relatives and friends are invited to graveside services with Rabbi Nina Mandel at noon Friday, Oct. 6, at the Beth El Temple Cemetery, 6th and Prince streets, Northumberland. Memorial contributions may be made to The Public Library for Union County, 255 Reitz Blvd., Lewisburg, PA 17837, www.unioncountylibraries.org; Congregation Beth El, 249 Arch St., Sunbury, PA 17801, Beth-el-sunbury.org; or Planned Parenthood/Keystone weareplannedparenthood.org. Family is being assisted by Goldsteins' Rosenberg's Raphael Sachs, 6410 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, and Conrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second Street, Lewisburg.
