Jerry Ludwig Cohen, now of Maplewood, NJ, passed away on June 1, 2026, of complications of Parkinson’s Disease. He was 79. He was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and brother-in-law.
Born in Philadelphia, the son of Howard and Sylvia Cohen, he grew up in Havertown. He graduated from The Pennsylvania State University cum laude and went on to receive a master’s degree and a Doctor of Philosophy in Social Psychology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He taught for eight more years at the University of Illinois before leaving for a position at the University of Rhode Island, Kingston, where he taught Social Psychology and Statistics for 35 years. In 1991, he received the University of Rhode Island Teacher of the Year Award. Teaching was both his vocation and his avocation. He considered himself a success when students mastered the concepts of Statistics. Jerry loved his family times most of all. He enjoyed working with his hands and accomplishing the tasks of home repair, wood splitting, and some furniture making. He learned to repair antique clocks. He was a life-long Yankees fan.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn (Feinberg), his son David Cohen (Kirsten Wallenstein) of Madison NJ, his daughter Sheila Cohen of Melbourne, Australia, two grandsons Sam and Lucas Cohen, his brother Murray J. Cohen (Eileen) and his sister Sugar Neckritz (Bobby).
A graveside ceremony will be held at King David Memorial Park in Bensalem, PA on Thursday, June 4 at 11AM precisely.
Jerry’s family will be observing shiva at his home in Winchester Gardens on Sunday, June 7 from 1-3 pm. Those wishing to remember Jerry may donate in his memory to The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
