JEROME ALBERT CAPLAN, age 83, passed away peacefully and comforted by his wife, children and grandchildren at his home in Ambler, PA on December 23, 2024. Jerome “Jerry” to most was recognized in his community as thoughtful, generous and insightful.
Jerry was born and grew up in Elkins Park, PA to the late Albert Joseph Caplan and Sylvia Bayuk Caplan. He was a proud graduate of Cheltenham High School class of 1959, where he met with his future wife Judith, “Judy”, and Temple University class of 1963, where he received a BS in Business Administration.
He furthered his studies in Labor Relations and Journalism at Michigan State University graduate school and later went on to work as a reporter at UPI. He spent 25 years of his career working as a human resource manager at General Electric, Aerospace Division. Subsequently, moving to Martin Marietta due to a merger with GE and later retiring with Citigroup as the Senior Human Resource Officer for the Corporate staff.
Jerry loved spending time with his family, celebrating holidays and vacationing together including memorable summers at the Jersey shore, and traveling to explore many world locations with his wife, family and friends. He and Judy had recently celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage with their children, grandchildren and longtime friends memorializing their lifelong love story.
He was an avid fan of Philadelphia sports teams including his Temple Owls as well as the New York Yankees. During his children’s school years, he refereed for the PIAA throughout local municipalities always focusing on sportsmanship.
He was very active at his synagogue Temple Sinai, Dresher including assigning the high holiday honors, a founding member of its first Chavurah and a member of the human resources committee.
Jerry battled Parkinson’s Disease since he had been diagnosed at the age of 58. During his courageous battle, he participated in clinical trials, enabling others to benefit from the outcome of this important health process.
He is survived by his wife Judy (nee Grossman); children Barry Caplan (Carolyn) of Ambler, PA, Craig Caplan (Harriet) of Brookeville, MD and Deborah Dall (Michael) of Dresher, PA, Grandpa to Shana, Rachel, Sam, Daniel, Emma, Asher and Zach, and Brother of Stephen (JoAnn) Caplan of Elkins Park, PA and the late Judy Gould.
Relatives and friends are invited to funeral services Friday, December 27, at 11:30am at Goldsteins' Rosenberg’s Funeral Directors Suburban North, 310 2nd Street Pike, Southampton, PA 18966 with burial to follow at King David Memorial Park in Bensalem, PA. Shiva will be observed at his late residence.
