Jay Stein, 71 passed away in Doylestown, PA during the evening of Monday, March 23rd.
Born in Levittown, PA in 1955 to Bill & Beatrice (Skolnick) Stein, Jay grew up in Levittown and participated in the local Boy Scout Troop with lifelong friends Louis & Robert Rosenzweig. Jay graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1972.
After graduation, Jay went to work with his father Bill in the family business, Boulevard Drapery Cleaners. After Bill’s retirement, Jay assumed control of the company and ran Boulevard Cleaners for close to forty years. Jay was very passionate about his trade and was widely regarded as among the best in the industry.
Jay and Diane Kaufman (Epstein) married in 1986, they had one child, Michael.
In his earlier years Jay was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking and still enjoyed canoeing with his son every Father’s Day. He loved to laugh, play poker with his friends, and was an avid Philadelphia sports fan who loved watching the Phillies and Eagles, especially in person, or with his lifelong friend Bruce Kline.
Jay was a beloved grandfather to his granddaughter Scarlet Stein, who affectionately called him her Zayda. He loved to dote upon her and show off pictures of her to friends and family.
Jay is survived by his son Michael (Carly Cofer), his granddaughter Scarlet, and his Brother Herb Stein; he will also be greatly missed by his longtime partner Joanne Upcavage, her sons Anthony Simone, Joseph Upcavage, & Christopher Upcavage, and their respective families.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Memorial Service on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at 3:30 PM, Goldsteins’ Rosenberg’s Suburban North, 310 2nd Street Pike, Southampton PA 18966. Contributions in Jay’s memory may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
