Born May 19, 1944, James Asher Caplan, 82, died on August 15, 2026. As Jay Leno quipped during a chance encounter, “...you’re the most interesting man in the world.

”An intellectual and artist, James was equally fascinated by medical science, history, and world affairs. He graduated from Penn State University, was a Fulbright Scholar at the London School of Economics, and attended Yale University. A committed Zionist, James had a keen interest in physically strengthening the Jewish people and ensuring their strength and survival.

James ran his family business, CAPP, for many years and took great pride in the personal connections he formed as well as the achievements over the years. The company was an extension of himself.

A life of color, James traveled the world, created and collected a remarkable collection of art, a reflection of his spirit and imagination. He was passionate about his treatment for sickle cell anemia using ozone oxygen and poured a great deal of time into bringing attention to the disease. He lived with an uncommon combination of intellect, imagination, ambition, and heart. He inspired many to appreciate beauty and knowledge, and to see the world with curiosity.

The son of Ben and Shirley, James is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Karin; his children, Blake, Monte (Alix), Abbye (Patrick), Dylan (Kylie), and Benjamin; and his grandchildren, Devon, Sydney, Aidan, Harlan, Sadie, Miles, and Scottie.

He leaves behind a family that was the greatest creation of his life, as well as friends, colleagues, and those he touched. His love, generosity, art, curiosity, and the family he created will remain his lasting legacy.
