A lover of books, Broadway shows, and afternoons spent in Rittenhouse Square, Jack Cardonick passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at the age of 85.
He is survived by his loving sister, Roni (Marc) Drutz; nephews Dan (Darcy) Drutz and Seth (Jenn) Drutz; and niece Mindy (Joe) DiCecco. He is also survived by great-nephew Shane Petrellis; great-niece Taylor (Bobby) Shrock; and great-great-niece Montana Shrock and great-great-nephew Owen Shrock.
A native of Philadelphia, Jack spent the later years of his life in Rittenhouse Square, where he could often be found taking walks, sitting on a bench, and reading a good book. He spent many evenings at the theater, volunteering as an usher, and in his younger years was a frequent visitor to Broadway. Jack also loved to travel.
Jack lived for several decades in Washington, D.C., where he was active in the gay community and built many lasting friendships.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
