IRWIN, December 17, 2013. A navy veteran of World War II who served on the Battleship Missouri and was on board ship when the Japanese government surrendered to end the war. A long time English teacher, he taught at Springfield High School (Delaware County), Wilmington College, Eastern State Penitentiary, and became the principal of prison education at Graterford Prison. Father of Alan Schmuckler (Sharon), loving brother of Lorna Darmstadter and the late Joseph Schmuckler and Lillian Zupko, grandfather of Brett and Jared. Also survived by loving nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to Funeral Services Thursday 11:30 A.M. at Martins Run Community, 11 Martins Run, Media, PA. Contributions in his memory may be made to the SPCA of Delaware County.
