IRVING ASKOW, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 95, surrounded by his family. Irv was born and raised in Philadelphia and was a graduate of Temple University. He was a devoted follower of the Eagles and the 76ers, as well as the Colonial School District’s football and basketball teams.
Irv’s far-ranging interests included travel, art and taking naps. He enjoyed opera and classical music and often listened to jazz in the evening while enjoying a cigar, a glass of cognac, and a good mystery or The New Yorker. His taste in movies was eclectic, and his top-ten list included Kurosawa’s Rashomon and Ran, the Japanese anime film Spirited Away, and his all-time favorite picture, Snow White.
He loved a good buffet and an open bar.
Irv is survived by his wife, Debby; son and daughter-in-law, Terry Miller and Ruthe Schwartz; daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Mitchell Arons; and grandchildren, Matthew and Chloe Arons. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry Askow; sister, Sarah Isaacs; as well as Melissa and Mike Rossiter, and Charles and Tiela Keagy.
Relatives and friends are invited to Funeral Services Monday, June 8, 11:30 AM at Goldsteins’ Rosenberg’s Funeral Directors, 6410 N Broad Street, Philadelphia PA 19126. Interment Montefiore Cemetery. Following burial the family will return to Congregation Or Ami, 708 Ridge Pike, Lafayette Hill, PA 19444, Minyan will be at 7:00 PM. Shiva will continue Tuesday at the late residence 12:00-3:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM with Minyan at 7:00 PM.
Shiva will be observed Wednesday through Sunday at the home of Penny & Mitchell Arons; Wednesday 6:00 – 9:00 PM, Thursday 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM and 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Friday 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM, Shabbat - No formal shiva hours, Saturday Evening 9:30 – 10:30 PM, Sunday 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Ma'ariv services will be held at 7:15 PM each evening during shiva, except Saturday evening, when Ma'ariv will be held at 9:45 PM.
