HOWARD M. RICE of Devon, PA. passed away in his beloved home on July 15, 2024 at the age of 87 of acute pneumonia. Beloved husband of 48 years of the late Linda (nee Seeligsohn); Loving father of Cheryl Rice Wohlstetter (Alan) and Mark Rice (Ronnet); Devoted grandfather of Dylan, Lydia, Chip Wohlstetter, and Barclay Wohlstetter; Dear brother of Richard Rice (Lynn); Dear brother-in-law of Sandy Silverman. Howard grew up in Miami, FL, the son of Betty (nee Mazer) and Leo Rice. He earned a bachelor’s degree in radio, television and film from the Univ. of Miami, and a master’s degree in communications from Boston Univ. He served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. Howard’s decades-long successful advertising career began as a copywriter at Ringold Kalish Walpert. He went on to become co-founder and creative director of the esteemed Kalish & Rice followed by executive positions at Earle Palmer Brown and Spiro. He worked as a consultant the rest of his career and was honored with more than 100 awards including a lifetime achievement award from the Phila. Advertising Club. Some of his most notable advertising campaigns were for Strawbridge and Clothier, WAWA, and Phila. Phillies. Howard taught advertising and creative writing courses at Temple Univ. for 52 years. His writing was published in Phila. Magazine, Miami Magazine, Ad News and Samuel French Anthology of One-Act Plays. His plays were produced in multiple cities including New York, Boston, Phila., and on WHYY-TV. He authored a book documenting the history of the Phila. Electric Co. His passion for uplifting people by helping them find and express their voice through writing continued throughout his life. Howard led ongoing writing workshops for cancer survivors, grieving children, and countless others. If you were blessed to meet him at Starbucks or Whole Foods in Devon, he probably invited you to take a reading-writing journey, and left you with a chocolate bar, and business card that simply stated You Matter. Relatives and friends are invited to Funeral Services, Tuesday, 7/23/2024, 11 AM precisely at Temple Brith Achim, 481 S. Gulph Rd., King of Prussia, PA. Interment private. Shiva will be observed at his late residence, Tuesday 7/23 and Wednesday 7/24 from 4 – 7 PM both days.
