Howard Lidz, on September 28th, 2024. Howard was born on July 6, 1931, in Philadelphia. The son of the late Morris Lidz and Dora (Feld) of Kingston/Wilkes-Barre, PA. Mr. Lidz grew up in Wilkes-Barre where he attended school through his primary and secondary years.
An architect, residing and practicing in Philadelphia. He graduated with honors from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Architecture with the degrees of Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture. He also graduated from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Finance with a Bachelor of Science in Economics.
Prior to opening his architectural office, he worked in several architectural offices in Philadelphia, including the office of Louis I. Kahn. Early in his practice, he traveled extensively throughout Europe and South America, studying architectural designs and construction techniques. In his own practice, he designed various types of building throughout the Philadelphia area, as well as Europe, South America and Asia.
He is survived by his wife Carol (nee Schneider), to whom he was married for over 50 years. He is also survived by his nephew Joel Warren (Li Ming Chen) Lidz. He is pre-deceased by his brother Edward.
Mr. Lidz had a special interest in astrophysics and astronomy, participating in a variety of activities of the Department of Astrophysics of the University of Pennsylvania. He also had a special love and concern for the welfare of animals, wildlife and the environment. His cultural interests include classical music and the fine arts. Howard and his wife Carol also hosted and sponsored students from the Curtis Institute of Music. He had an early background and training in drawing prior to his studies of architecture. During his career he taught a course in the History of Architecture at Temple University.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, or to any charity that focuses on animal or environmental welfare.
