HERMAN "HAL", age 79, of NE Phila., died Tues. Sept. 23, 2008 at home. He was the beloved husband for 56 years of Sondra "Sone" (nee Hofferman), loving father of Dr. Ascher and his wife Marla. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Solomon "Sol" and Judith, and many loving nieces and nephews. Hal was a longtime smiling presence inside Boyd's of Phila., where he greeted and assisted customers during his 35 years there; he retired in 1994. He grew up in So. Phila., where he developed his love of the violin as well as music, mainly jazz and classical. Hal was Concertmaster of South Phila. High School and the All City Orchestra as a teenager. After retirement, he once more was able to devote time to the violin serving as a Concertmaster for 10 years of the Cheltenham High Adult Orchestra. Hal was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served as a Master Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. Relatives and friends are invited to Funeral Services, Friday 11:30 A.M. precisely, GOLDSTEINS' ROSENBERG'S RAPHAEL SACKS SUBURBAN NORTH, 310 Second St. Pike, Southampton. Int. King David Memorial Park. Shiva will be observed at the late residence. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Society, 1 Reed St.- Suite 200, Phila. PA 19147.
