Herbert "Herb" Vernick

Herbert “Herb” Vernick, 88, of Philadelphia, peacefully passed away in his sleep on Thursday, November 13. Known affectionately to his grandchildren as “Poppy,” he is survived by his loving wife, Enid; his sons, Michael (Audrey) and Richard (Jill); and his grandchildren, Lindsey, Jacob, Nicole, and Anna.

He never ran out of stories, and whether every detail was true is between Herb and whoever’s keeping the records up there.

Herb always had a talent for remembering names, faces, and birthdays. He made everyone feel like they mattered, which is why half the world thinks they had a “special bond” with him. They weren’t wrong.

He met the love of his life, Enid, when he was 18, at a stop sign. They stayed together for about 70 years, building a life full of loyalty, humor, and the kind of partnership that looks effortless only when you’ve been doing it forever. Together they raised their two sons, Michael and Richard, who grew up with his stories, his steadiness, and that very specific brand of Vernick charm.

Herb was a hardworking man who ran his own insurance company for many years. Through it all, he remained devoted to his family, raising them with the kind of quiet warmth that sneaks up on you; the jokes, the stories, and the small moments where he somehow made you feel like the most important person in the room. That was his real talent.

He adored his grandchildren, Lindsey, Jacob, Nicole, and Anna, who got the full Poppy experience: the stories, the jokes, and the soft-hearted warmth right underneath all of it.

Funeral Services are Private, but all are invited to Shiva on Tuesday, November 18 from 2:00 - 8:00 PM in Liberty Commons at Ann’s Choice, 20000 Ann's Choice Way, Warminster, PA, 18974. Contributions in his memory may be made to Phillies Charities, Inc.

Herb was the family classic, the one you quote, the one you brag about, and the one you will never forget. He did life his way, story by story.
