Herbert Borenstein was born on March 20, 1926 in Williamsburg, New York to parents Esther and Harry. He was first generation American! He was the older brother of Julius Borenstein.
He graduated from Eastern District high school in Brooklyn in 1944. He then went right in to Army Air Corp where he served honorably for two years. In the army served as a radio operator and learned to use Morse Code.
He worked as an inspector for the federal government department of defense for over 30 years.
He was then lucky enough to be retired for well over 30 years.
His hobbies included stamp collecting, photography and travel. He was also very interested in history and was a proud Zionist.
But most of all he loved his family. He was a devoted husband who always said that the luckiest day of his life was when he met his beautiful wife Dorothy (Borowick). He was committed to her and even took care of her as her health declined for several years. He stayed right by her side until her death in 2012.
He was a loving father to Susan Kaplan (Steve), Joyce Soll (Stephen) and Randi Lombardozzi. And a loving grandfather to his eight grandchildren Laura Freedman (Neil), Doug Kaplan, Joey McNeill (Yael Herman), Julie Kaplan (James Foot), Lizzy McNeill (Joei Nicholls), Lucas Lombardozzi (Devin), Alaina Kaplan (Leon Canada), and Danielle Lombardozzi. He also took great pride in his two great grandchildren Arielle McNeill and Julian Freedman.
His home was our gathering place for holidays and lots of special occasions for over 35 years. In his honor we will continue to gather as a family and celebrate life’s happy events. He will live on in our hearts and memories forever.
