Harvey Irving Cohen, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, at the age of 88.
Born in the Bronx, New York, on January 16, 1937, Harvey was the son of the late Joseph and Anne Cohen, and brother to the late Terrilynn Cohen. He lovingly raised his younger brother, Daniel John Cohen, together with his wife, Doris. Harvey spent his childhood in Miami, Florida, where he developed his love for movies, his knack for a little harmless mischief, and the quick wit that became his lifelong trademark. After proudly serving in the United States Navy—earning the Good Conduct Medal—he returned to Pennsylvania, beginning a career with the United States Postal Service at 30th and Market Street in Philadelphia. Over more than three decades, Harvey rose to the role of Supervisor Mechanic, retiring with the same honesty, dedication, and loyalty that defined his life.
In 1965, Harvey married the love of his life, Doris (Barnes) Cohen. Together they shared 60 years of marriage, raising their son, David J. Cohen, and later welcoming their cherished granddaughter, Madeline Marlowe—his pride and joy. Madeline was often his “Sous Chef,” joining him in the kitchen to prepare meals that were as full of flavor as they were of love. Harvey was a man of remarkable skill and creativity. If you could dream it, he could build it—from picnic tables and furniture to cars, including a small race car for David that proudly took first place in the Cub Scouts. He loved fishing and deep-sea trips with Doris, David, and Madeline, and found joy in tinkering with tools, cooking for family gatherings, and sharing his creations with others. He was known for his intelligence, sharp humor, and generous spirit. Harvey had a mischievous sparkle in his eyes and a gift for making people laugh, turning neighbors into lifelong friends. If Harvey liked you, you could count on his loyalty forever. Above all, Harvey was a gentle, kind soul who lived by the values he passed down—work hard, love deeply, stay loyal, and never underestimate the power of a well-timed joke. He was always there for others, especially in times of illness or need, and his presence was a steady source of strength for his family.
Harvey leaves behind his devoted wife, Doris; his son, David J. Cohen; his beloved granddaughter, Madeline Marlowe; and a community of extended family and friends who were blessed to know him.
Relatives and friends are invited to Graveside Services on Friday, August 15, 2025, at 1:00 PM precisely at Montefiore Cemetery, 600 Church Road, Jenkintown, PA 19046.
May his memory be a blessing. We cherished every moment and every second spent caring for Harvey—our beloved husband, dad, and grandpa—and we would not have traded that time for anything in the world. We love you, we miss you, and we carry you in our hearts until we meet again. Love you always, Dad.
