Harry Pure, a beloved figure in athletic development and mentorship, passed away peacefully at his home in Audubon, PA, on January 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 6, 1928, in Philadelphia, PA, Harry's journey through life was marked by a passion for sports, education, and nurturing the potential of young people.

For over two decades, Harry served as the Director of Athletics at the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science, now known as Jefferson University. It was here that he was instrumental in transforming the athletic department, helping to cultivate an environment that not only produced a Division II national basketball championship in 1970 but also fostered a nationally recognized soccer team. His dedication extended beyond the field; he played a pivotal role in expanding the women's athletic programs and developed educational courses that promoted physical and mental health for non-athletes alike.

In addition to his accomplishments at the university, Harry dedicated 25 summers to leading the boys' camps, Camp Comet and Comet Trails, nestled in the serene Blue Ridge Mountains near Waynesboro, PA. He inspired countless campers and counselors who often reflect on the significant impact he had on their lives—a testament to his unwavering commitment to guidance and mentorship.

Harry's enthusiasm for life was matched by his love for nature. An amateur landscaper, he spent many hours planting trees and advising the landscaping administration at various locations throughout his life, ensuring that beauty flourished in the places he called home. As he aged, he picked up painting, showcasing his talent at the Shannondell art shows where his works not only adorned his apartment but also brightened the homes of his children.

He was a proud alumnus of West Philadelphia High School, where he excelled at basketball, earning a full scholarship to Gettysburg College. His athletic prowess continued to shine at Gettysburg, making him an all-state player and earning him a place in the Gettysburg College Sports Hall of Fame, a crowning achievement that he cherished deeply.

Harry's personality was a joyous blend of humor and wisdom; he delighted in sharing laughter and light-heartedness with everyone he encountered. His penchant for creating amusing names and titles for his loved ones highlighted his playful spirit. As a mentor to many and an advisor to friends and family alike, he was known for his incredible ability to uplift those around him with thoughtful counsel.

During the Korean War, Harry proudly served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1950 to 1952, a testament to his commitment to his country. He carried the same dedication into every endeavor in his post-military life, remaining active well into his later years.

Harry is survived by his children: Jamie Stanton (Clifford), David Pure (Julie)
and Shara Bubes (Kenneth); and his cherished grandchildren: Josh Stanton, Aaryn Pure, Carly Stanton, Nicole Bubes, Dylan Pure, Jack Bubes, Adam Bubes, and Gavyn Pure. He was lucky enough to see the birth of seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife and partner, Harriet Pure, who passed away in February 2015.

The legacy of Harry Pure will continue to resonate in the countless lives he touched, both on the athletic fields and beyond, eternally cherished for his uplifting spirit, guidance, and love. His memory will be a guiding light, reminding us all of the power of kindness, mentorship, and the joy of living fully in each day.
