On December 1, 2020, Harold Reuben Stern, PhD, an influential and respected psychoanalyst, passed away at the age of 93.
Born May 7, 1927 in Perth Amboy, NJ, Dr. Stern and his family survived the Great Depression. During WWII he served in the US Army, after which he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania.
In the late 1950s Dr. Stern began pursuing the field that would become his lifelong profession and passion. He founded the Philadelphia School of Psychoanalysis in 1971, authored a book and numerous journal articles, and continued practicing and mentoring trainees for the remainder of his life. Many colleagues and former patients credit him for making a major contribution to their lives.
Dr. Stern is survived by his four children: Gregory Stern, Daniela Iizuka, Moss Stern, and Gabriel Stern.
