Gerald “Jerry” Brook, 93, passed away on October 5, 2026
Jerry was born in 1932 in Newark, New Jersey, to Thomas Hayden Brook and Sophie Rosenfeld Brook. His life was marked from the very beginning by resilience. Born prematurely and not expected to survive, Jerry defied the odds — something he would continue to do throughout his life.
His father built a successful refrigeration and electrical business in Philadelphia’s Strawberry Mansion neighborhood, but died when Jerry was only 10 years old. Jerry’s mother, Sophie, was left to run the family business during World War II, a difficult undertaking made even harder when many of the company’s skilled electricians and refrigeration technicians were called into military service. After the business ultimately closed, Jerry began working at just 16 years old to help support his mother and family. He attended Murrell Dobbins Vocational High School in Philadelphia and later worked as an electrician at Philadelphia General Hospital.
Jerry’s life changed when he met Rosanne, the woman who would become his wife and lifelong partner. Rosanne made it clear that she would not marry him until he was earning at least $100 a week — a challenge Jerry took seriously. He changed careers and entered the insurance and mutual fund business, and the two married in 1959.
Jerry went on to become a successful salesman, primarily in insurance, and spent the rest of his career in sales before retiring in 1996. He had a natural gift for connecting with people — an outgoing personality, quick wit, and presence that could light up a room.
Jerry and Rosanne shared nearly 64 years of marriage, and he never hesitated to say that marrying her was the best decision he ever made. Together they built a full and happy life centered on family, friendship, and community. They enjoyed an active social life, belonged to numerous clubs and organizations, and were fortunate to have many close and lasting friendships.
One of Jerry’s greatest pastimes was following the stock market and offering investment advice to family and friends. He loved discussing stocks almost as much as he loved finding the humor in life. He also took tremendous pride in caring for his home, inside and out. Whether tending to the landscaping, cleaning his house, doing the laundry, or keeping everything neat and orderly, Jerry liked to take care of things himself and continued doing so for as long as he was able.
Jerry will be remembered especially for his tremendous sense of humor, his determination, his generosity, and his deep devotion to the people he loved. Above all, he cherished his family and remained profoundly devoted to Rosanne throughout their life together and after her passing.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Ilean Keltz and her husband, Michael Kucharczk; his son, Thomas Brook and his wife, Joi; his grandchildren, Jennifer Keltz and her husband, Callum Brown; Hayden Brook; Channing Brook; and Robert Kucharczk; and his great-grandsons, Callum and Oswald Brown. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosanne Brook, and his sister, Marian Sheffit.
The funeral and burial will be held on Monday, October 12, at 1:00 p.m. at Shalom Memorial Park in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania.
Ilean will sit shiva on Tuesday, October 13, and Wednesday, October 14, at her home in Fairfax Station.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in Jerry’s memory.
May Jerry’s memory be a blessing.
