George Weinbaum, 93, passed away peacefully on February 14. He lived a life of love, humility, and gratitude.
Born in New York, George came to Philadelphia as a student at the University of Pennsylvania, class of 1953, and lived in East Oak Lane for the past 63 years. He worked as a biochemist, doing the earliest research connecting cigarette smoke to lung disease. George and his beloved wife Carol traveled often and their family was his greatest joy: four children, their spouses, and nine grandchildren. Togetherness at Jewish holidays gave special pleasure. He often said how lucky he was, and those who love him know that he meant it. He loved a good laugh and titled his memoir, “Mostly, It’s Been Fun!”
He will always be remembered with love by his wife Carol, his children Elliot, Laura, Cindy, and Eve, sons-in-law Brett, Mark, and Max, grandoffspring Sidney, Ariel, Rose, Sam, Mia, Hannah, Ruthie, Aviva, and Jonah, and many relatives and long-time friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to Funeral services on Monday at 1:00 PM at Goldsteins Rosenberg's Funeral Directors, 6410 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA 19126. Interment will follow at Montefiore Cemetery.
