FRANCES Fineman (nee Jacobs), died peacefully at her home in Philadelphia on September 11, 2023 surrounded by family. She was 98 1/2 years old. "Franny,"  as she was known to friends and family was born in South Philadelphia and grew up in Strawberry Mansion, West Philadelphia and Logan. A graduate of Kearney Grade School, Cook Junior High and Simon Gratz High School, Fran quickly became a standout student and loyal friend.

As a young working woman Fran proved that she could hold her own as the first female employee of the Philadelphia Electric Company. She went on to positions at the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia and Moore College of Art that provided an outlet for her outgoing nature and love of the arts.  Fran had a deep appreciation of music, especially classical and was a lifelong supporter of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

A woman of impeccable style, sharp intelligence and contagious sense of humor, Fran created a life that welcomed in family and friends near and far. Her well known expressions and genius turns of phrase led to her being known as simply, The Legend.

Wife of the late Joseph I. Fineman and sister of the late Bertrand R. Jacobs, Fran is survived by her daughters Nina Fineman and Carol Fineman (Mustafa Adam) and her beloved cat, Winston (aka Cudgey). Relatives and friends are invited to graveside services Monday 12 Noon precisely at Montefiore Cemetery, 600 Church Rd., Jenkintown, PA 19046 (Sec. 18-D). Shiva will be observed Monday only immediately following the service at her late residence.
