Ernest Gross

Ernest Gross passed away on Oct. 11, 2023. Ernest was born in Turc, Romania in 1929.  

He was one of 9 children (2 of whom died in infancy).

Ernest was a Holocaust survivor of Auschwitz and Dachau, where he was liberated on Apr. 29, 1945, by the US Army. Only he and three siblings (2 brothers and 1 sister) survived the war. He emigrated to the United States in 1947.  He was a husband to the late Bella Gross (nee Berger), married in 1957, and the late Roza Gross (nee Bershadskaya), married in 1981.

For the last decade of his life, he worked both with the Holocaust Awareness Museum in Philadelphia and independently to speak and share his experiences as a survivor at high schools, colleges, airshows, roundtables, and chabad's just to name a few. His story is available at Steven Spielberg’s Shoah Foundation Living History, Gratz College’s Holocaust Oral History, and is listed at the US Holocaust Museum in DC.

He is survived by his sons Jerry (daughter-in-law Deserie Gross), Steve, David, and stepdaughter Irene (Barry Painter).

Grandchildren Cody (fiancé Melissa), Brittani (husband Jared), Lea, Amy, Jordan, Kyle, and Hailey.

Great granddaughter Elliana.

Funeral Services on Friday October 20 at 11:30 am.
