Eric Rudolph Chabrow, age 75, passed away on October 2, 2026, in Wyndmoor, PA, after a nearly five-year battle with Vascular Parkinsonism. Predeceased by his parents, Abraham and Bernice Chabrow, Eric is survived by his wife, Laura Chabrow of Plymouth Meeting, PA; daughter, Rebecca Chabrow (Josh Raggi) of Ambler, PA; son, Shmuel Chabrow (Aliza) of Ma’ale Adumim, Israel; sister, Sheryl (Donald) Berger of Langhorne, PA; grandchildren Chanan, Na’ama, Autumn, and Nadav; and a loving extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Born in Philadelphia and raised in Mt. Airy, Eric fondly remembered a close-knit childhood filled with Phillies games at Shibe Park, family gatherings, synagogue youth group, and editing his school yearbook and newspapers. Though he entered the University of Cincinnati intending to become a rabbi, his passion for storytelling drew him to journalism. He earned a B.A. in Speech and Communications from Cincinnati and an M.A. from Bowling Green State University in Speech Communications, focusing on TV, Radio, and Film.
Eric’s journalism career spanned over four decades, primarily focused on government and technology. Respected as "the epitome of the ideal editor…calm, thoughtful, creative, and always deeply supportive," his resume included interviewing political rising stars like Tom Carper and Joe Biden in the 1970s, serving as general editor for a precursor to today’s online news platforms in the 1980s, and hosting a twice-weekly cybersecurity podcast in the 2010s. In retirement, he continued podcasting through Being Jewish, exploring how Jewish identity and values shape modern life.
Eric met Laura through a mutual friend; by their third date, they had chosen names for their future children, marrying seven months later and sharing over four decades as life partners. Together they enjoyed musical theater, hiking, and building a home rooted in love and laughter. An exceptionally involved father, Eric coached sports, directed family home movies, cooked daily meals, and perhaps too thoroughly “edited” school papers. He was a steady, nonjudgmental listener who modeled emotional presence, curiosity, and unconditional support.
A conversation with Eric often felt like being interviewed—driven by a genuine desire to understand and connect. A man of questions more than answers, Eric sought truth through journalism, connection through family, and joy through storytelling. His legacy lives on in the values he passed down: curiosity, empathy, honesty, and devotion.
