In Loving Memory of Ellis M. Hershowitz
January 26th, 1947 – May 30th, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ellis Hershowitz on May 30th, 2026. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He has left behind a void that we will never be able to fill.
Ellis was a graduate of Northeast High School in Philadelphia and later received his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the Philadelphia College of Textiles & Science (Philadelphia University). Shortly after college, Ellis began his career with the Drug Enforcement Administration as a special agent in Philadelphia, where he spent 27 years cleaning up the streets.
Everyone knew Ellis as an avid “deal finder.” He loved his flea markets, thrift stores and yard sales. Later in life, he took an interest in sports memorabilia, jewelry and watches. He was the king of bad jokes, but he told them all so proudly so we always let him have those moments!
Ellis is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; his children Matthew (Ashley), Steven (Lisa) and Jennifer (David) and his five grandchildren, Amelia, Reese, Kara, Brody & Ava, all of whom he adored more than anything in this world. He was also survived by his brother, Mark, and preceded by his parents, Herbert & Beatrice and his sister, Iris.
Family and friends are invited to Funeral Services at Roosevelt Memorial Park located at 2701 Old Lincoln Highway in Trevose, PA on Monday, June 1st, 2026 at 11:00am. Shiva will be observed immediately following the services at the home of Ellis and Barbara and will be observed through Tuesday evening.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Kidney Foundation, the American Cancer Society or the Shomrim Society (frateneral organization of Jewish law enforcement officers).
