Elaine Shay passed away this Saturday morning, June 13, 2026 in Rydal, Pennsylvania. She was 88.

Since the death of her husband, Robert Shay in 1992, Elaine served as Chairman of the Board of Montefiore Cemetery. She was elected to the Abington Board of School Directors, also serving as their representative to the Vo-Tech board. She later served on the Abington Library Board as its treasurer. She also served many years as local Republican Committee person.

Elaine was a lifelong volunteer, recording college level textbooks for Recordings for the Blind and Dyslexic, as well serving as Vice-Chairman of Blood Services for the American Red Cross. An avid lover of music, Elaine played cello for the Wynnefield Orchestra and actively participated in the Beth Sholom and KI choirs.

Elaine is survived by her children: Shoshana, Lauri, Bob (Margaret), and Heather Shay-Herzig (Jack Herzig), and four grandchildren, Elizabeth Shay (Dave Cai), Rebecca Shay (Chris Russom), Marissa Herzig, and Gavin Herzig.

Donations in her honor may be made to Guide Dogs for the Blind, The Radiance Technique International Association, Inc. (TRTIA), and the Abington Free Library.
