Elaine Heather Brumberg (nee Gorman) passed away on April 17, 2022. Born on May 7, 1940 in Pittsburgh, PA, to the late Irene and William Gorman. Elaine was the beloved wife of the late Norman; Loving mother of Amy Seiden (Mark), Scott Dimetrosky (Karen Cravitz), Harriet Brumberg (Robert Kramer), and Bruce Brumberg (Karen Axelrod); Dear sister of Gene Gorman; Loving companion of David Singer and puppy Cooper. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, Rachel Hahn (Michael), daughter of David Singer, and her two children.
Elaine was a model in her 30s and then became a makeup artist, which eventually lead her to write three bestselling books. While working as a beauty consultant for a dermatologist, her husband Norman encouraged her to write her first beauty book, titled "Save Your Money, Save Your Face," a national best-seller. She appeared on the Phil Donahue show and the Washington Post dubbed her "the Ralph Nader of the cosmetics industry."
Her second and third books were titled, "Take Care of Your Skin," and "Ageless, What Every Woman Needs to Know to Look Good & Feel Great." Through her books, Elaine strove to impart her beauty knowledge and expertise as a way to empower women of all ages, especially those going through menopause.
Elaine wrote articles for national magazines and was a Q & A beauty consultant for several publications. As a lecturer, she traveled all over United States and Canada promoting her books and inspiring other women to follow their dreams.
In later years, Elaine worked part time for Norman at his five bowling centers and attended bowling management school to learn the business. After Norman became ill and four of his bowling centers were sold, Elaine, in her late 70s bought out his partner in the fifth, Thunderbird Bowling Center in Warminster, PA. She became a rare female-owner in the bowling industry. Through her hard work, perseverance and tenacity, she demonstrated that she was capable of running the business successfully.
Elaine was dedicated to many organizations but in particular to those serving veterans, sick children, and individuals with special needs. She proudly hosted fundraisers at the bowling center for a wide variety of causes. She was a long-time member of Reform Congregation Keneseth Israel in Elkins Park and more recently was a member of Congregation M'kor Shalom in Cherry Hill, NJ.
Elaine was passionately devoted to her family, her puppy Cooper, and to sharing her bowling center every Saturday with children and adults with special needs. Elaine got involved working with sick and special needs children because of her friend Jen Su's son Michael, who was diagnosed with cancer several years ago. She wanted to help Michael and others like him, in any way she could.
Prior to the COVID pandemic, Elaine found great joy in visiting children's hospitals throughout the Delaware Valley. She wanted to give sick children the opportunity to enjoy a bowling party experience. Dressed in her fairy godmother costume, Elaine, "The Fairy Godmother of Bowling," would take her traveling dinosaur bowling center and party favors to visit children of all ages, many of whom were not well enough to go to a bowling center or to another child's birthday party. During the holiday season, Elaine took great pleasure in dressing up as Mrs. Claus and having Santa come to the bowling center to take photos with her guests.
Elaine enjoyed shopping and traveling across the U.S. and all over the world, taking particular pleasure in memories of her trips to the Amalfi Coast, the Galapagos Islands, Machu Pichu, Iceland, China, Russia and Tahiti.
As the proud owner of Thunderbird Bowling Center, she was adored by her customers and employees and was always striving to make the bowling experience better and more enjoyable for bowlers of all ages. Elaine wanted bowlers to feel like they were guests in her home. She led the bowling center through the many challenges Covid heaped upon small businesses, reopening after the forced closures and rigorously following all health guidelines that have led Thunderbird Lanes-Warminster to again thrive.
Elaine was like a race car driver, navigating every turn at 100 mph. She was always full-speed-ahead and put her passion, energy and soul into everything she did. She was a barrier breaker and role-model, a feisty and savvy business owner, and a loving and devoted mother, wife, companion, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.
