Eileen Sara Borenstein, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, educator, advocate, and friend, passed away on August 9, leaving behind a life defined by love, curiosity, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to the people and causes she held dear.

Eileen was born on May 7, 1941, in Waltham, Massachusetts, to Lilian (Smith) Bornstein and Samuel Abraham Bornstein. She was predeceased by her parents and her beloved sister, Phyllis (Bornstein) Rosen.

After graduating from Waltham High School and Cambridge Academy, Eileen attended Kansas State University and Boston University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. On August 24, 1963, she married Noah, the love of her life. Together, they began their life in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, before settling in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia, where they welcomed their son, Maximillian.

Soon after moving to Philadelphia, Eileen began working at Chester A. Arthur Elementary School, where she discovered her lifelong love of teaching and working with children. Years later, she returned to graduate school, earning a Master’s degree and becoming a Reading Specialist. She subsequently worked for Cora Services, where she devoted herself to helping children develop literacy skills and educational access.

Eileen and Noah enjoyed traveling the world together, sharing countless adventures and experiences. She also became a fierce and tireless advocate for educational inclusion, continuing her lifelong commitment to ensuring that every child had the opportunity to learn, participate, and thrive. In 2024, Eileen and Noah moved to Ann’s Choice in Warminster, Pennsylvania, where she embraced the community and enjoyed making new friends.

Eileen approached life with enthusiasm and creativity. She loved art, gardening, interior design, flower arranging, and cooking. Her cooking was legendary, with her lasagna holding a particularly treasured place in the hearts and memories of her family. She was also an avid reader who loved books and could always be counted on to have a story, an opinion, or a recommendation to share.

Eileen was deeply engaged in her community and throughout her life was civically and politically active. She passionately campaigned for candidates and causes she believed in and took great pride in instilling a love of country in those she loved. She especially enjoyed the Fourth of July parade in Oreland, PA, their home for 49 years.

Thanksgiving was Eileen’s favorite holiday, and some of her happiest memories were of celebrating it with family—during her early years in Gloucester, Massachusetts, and, in later years, in Pennsylvania.

Above all, Eileen cherished her family. She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Noah; her son, Max, and his wife, Linda; and her beloved grandchildren, Daniel and Lauren. She will be remembered for her intelligence, strong convictions, generosity, creativity, devotion to family, and her fierce determination to make the world a better place for children.

Eileen lived a full and purposeful life, always learning, advocating, loving, and bringing her own unmistakable spirit to everything she did. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 21, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel at Ann’s Choice Retirement Community in Warminster, Pennsylvania. Burial will be private.
