Edwin A. Schweriner passed on May 10, 2026. Beloved husband of Claire (nee Judd); loving father of Randi Schweriner (David Kritz), Jeffrey (Lori Hamer); Loving grandfather of Jeremy (Sherry Lin) Kritz, and Benjamin Kritz.

Ed was born in the East Oak Lane section of Philadelphia and graduated from Olney High School.

As a young man, he was very active as a boy scout leader, which continued through the 1960s.

He was active at Keneseth Israel synagogue for many years, serving as President of the Alumni and President of Temple Council (a social group for young adults). He was head of the safety and security committee at KI. Prior to his passing he was the oldest living male confirmand that was still a synagogue member.

Ed lived in Cheltenham Township for over 50 years, and was active in township functions and committees. In 2017 he was recognized by Cheltenham’s Board of Commissioners for having received awards and citations, including a Montgomery County Proclamation, a PA House of Representatives Citation, a U.S. Congressional Proclamation, and a Lifetime Call to Service Award for having served the nation in excess of 5,000 hours without renumeration.

He was also very active in local politics working on various campaigns and at the polls.

Ed proudly served in the Auxiliary Police of Cheltenham Township for 33 years, starting in 1971, becoming the unit’s Director in 1994, until his retirement from the unit in 2004. He served as an advisor to the Auxiliary Police after he retired from the unit.

Following in the footsteps of his father, Ed was a life insurance salesman for decades, helping families with their financial security.

Ed and Claire shared a wonderful marriage and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2023. Over the years they enjoyed weddings, b’nai mitzvot, holidays, and just spending time with friends and family. They traveled to Israel, Europe, Hawaii, Mexico, and the Caribbean. They also enjoyed time with family and friends on Long Beach Island for 20 years.

Ed will be remembered for his friendliness, concern for others, his love of stories, for being civically engaged, and being a great neighbor.

Friends and relatives are invited to a memorial service at Keneseth Israel synagogue, on Friday, May 15, at 11:30 AM, 8339 Old York Rd, Elkins Park, PA 19027.

Contributions in his memory may be made to Keneseth Israel or a charity of donor’s choice.
