ZIMMERMAN
DR. EDWARD, June 15, 2013, at the age of 93. He practiced family medicine for 50 years in the Kensington and Port Richmond area of Philadelphia. He was truly a family physician, admired for his devotion to his patients, in which he even made house calls seeing from the young to the elderly in one home. He received his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1954. Shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor he enlisted in the Army Air Corp as a private. He eventually attained the rank of Captain as a liason officer for the 9th Air Force. He served over 4 1/2 years in the military in which 3 1/2 of those years were in the Asiatic-Pacific regions and the European Theatre. He was awarded two Bronze Stars for Normandy and Northern France. He was given a unique honor by the 101st Air Bourne Division for his service rendered to them on D-Day by being presented with the ultra polished pair of paratroop boots. Gardening, cooking and golf were just some of the pleasures he enjoyed and he was also an avid reader and historian.
Husband of the late Mirjam (nee Schrager) for 62 years. Father of Elaine (Marc, Esq.) Orlow and Mona (David) Cohen, grandfather of Joshua and Daniel Orlow, Michael and Robert Cohen; also survived by his very dear friend and loving companion, Irene Feldman, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who adored him.
