Edith "Heike" Burstein

Edith “Heike” Burstein (nee Podietz), wife of the late Louis Wolf Burstein, passed on August 30, 2024, three weeks shy of her 95th birthday. Heike was a lifetime resident of Philadelphia. She grew up with Lois Sue Stein (nee Moss), Robin’s mother, who convinced her to take business courses at Gratz High School which led to a career as a bookkeeper with Boyd’s Men’s Clothing and the Costume Gallery, among other businesses. Beloved mother of Steven (Robin) and Alan (Bernice Geary). Loving grandmother of Brett (Kristin). Devoted Big Bubbie of Sara and Jemma, her great granddaughters. Also survived by Kathy Geary, daughter of Bernice. Heike was the youngest daughter of the late Jacob Podietz and Bessie (nee Cohen). She was predeceased by her older sisters Pearl (Al) Goodman, Yetta “Loretta” (Bob) Silverstein and Sophie “Betty” (Sam) Daniels.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Graveside Service on Tuesday, September 3, 11:00 AM precisely at Shalom Memorial Park, 3573 Pine Road, Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania 19006. Shiva will be observed at Heike’s late residence immediately following the interment through Thursday evening. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions in her memory be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in the name of Steven Goodman, her late nephew, 30 S. 17th Street, Suite 800 Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19103, nationalmssociety.org.
