SILVERS

Dr. Richard L., age 99, passed away December 17, 2024. Loving husband of the late Elayne (nee Glassman) for 77 years. Devoted father of Gary Silvers (Briana), Sandra Alch (Marc), and the late Lynn Zitron. Adoring “Pop” of Shari Krause (Bill), Lori Rogers (Craig), Michael Zitron, Melissa Zitron, Aaron Silvers, and Daniel Silvers (Samantha). Great-grandfather of Billy, Brandon, Ryan, Logan, Selena, and Asa.

Richard graduated from West Philadelphia High School as senior grade director in 1943. He then joined the U.S. Navy and served on the Battleship USS South Dakota in the South Pacific and volunteered 10 years on the Battleship New Jersey.

He attended Princeton University, Trinity College, and Yale University, and graduated from the PA State of College of Optometry in 1949. He practiced optometry in South Philadelphia for 49 years – succeeding his father.

He was president of Gamma Lodge, a group of 300 professional businessmen who were active in the community. He was also a Founder and President of the Gamma Swim Club in Broomall.
