DR. ELLEN MAITIN

age 68, of Penn Valley, PA, died June 7, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her loved ones. Ellen Celia Maitin was born May 7, 1951 in Cambridge, MA at Mount Auburn Hospital to Irving and Jeanette Maitin. She lived in Cambridge until age 2 when she moved to Meadowbrook, PA where she was raised and attended Abington High School. She initially attended Clark University in Worcester, MA and then transferred and graduated from Beaver (now Arcadia) University. She attended medical school at Stonybrook University, spent a transition year at the University of Iowa and then completed her residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. This was followed by a one-year fellowship in hand and microsurgery with Dr. William Bora at University of Pennsylvania. She went on to become the chief of hand surgery at MCP and then later left to start private practice at Jeanes Hospital. Before her illness she was an employee of OSRA in Philadelphia for over 25 years. Ellen was beloved by her patients and the staff at work and she was passionate about delivering top notch care. When not at work, she enjoyed interior design, beautiful artwork and spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband, Dr. David Behar, three daughters and son-in-law's, Dr. Brittany Behar and Nicholas Morelli, Courtney and Andrew Kaplin, and Danielle Behar and Dr. Casey Anderson; and by her sister and brother in law, Karin and Gary Schnoll and brother and sister in law, Dr. Roger Behar and Ann Behar. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Gail Maitin. A memorial service will be held in her honor at Abington Art Center in Jenkintown PA on June 23rd from 10:30�1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in Ellen's honor to either the National Kidney Foundation or Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
