Dr. Bertram Lurie

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Dr. Bertram S. Lurie. He was the son of Jack and Sarah (Alman) Lurie, brother of the late Leonard (Mildred) Lurie. He was a U of P undergrad and attended Temple Dental School. He enlisted in the USAF in 1954 where he completed his service as captain in Dental Corp. He married Barbara Weiss Lurie in 1954, and had four children Howard Lurie (Darlene), Ellen Lurie Mellman (Marty), Jeffrey Lurie (Andrea), and Susan Lurie Rabinowitz (Mark). He married Gladys Lurie in 1976 and acquired three stepchildren, Diane Schied Maguire, Susan Schied and Thomas Schied (Susan).

He ended his private practice of Orthodontics in 1982 and joined Mediq Inc. as Vice President of Mediq Dental Management Services, Inc. He developed “The Orthodontics, Inc” with multiple offices in Philadelphia and Los Angeles. He enjoyed his children, 3 stepchildren and their mates, 16 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. Bert and Glad loved their winter home in Boyton Beach, Florida for many years upon retirement. Bert was an avid and competitive golfer, often with a single digit handicap and four holes in one. In retirement he became an eager tennis player, until age eliminated sports.
Services and interment are private. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.
