Allan was born on January 12, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA to Ida and Samuel Arbeter, on their anniversary. Ida and Sam were especially hard workers and moved Allan and his brother Mel (pre-deceased) between living in the city of Philadelphia and a farm in Plumsteadville, PA throughout his young childhood. Allan held amazing memories of his time on the farm with the pigs, cows and collie dogs. Allan spent his teenage years at Central Bucks County High School before enrolling in Rutgers for undergrad.
Dr. Arbeter graduated from Thomas Jefferson University Medical School in 1967, retiring after 55 years plus years in the medical field. With a specialty in pediatric infectious disease, he treated children with a broad array of diseases caused by germs, viruses, fungi, ranging from flu to hospital acquired infections to pneumonia. In the 1970s and 1980s, Dr. Arbeter participated in extensive research and trials to bring forward varicella (chicken pox) vaccines which are now incorporated in the MMR vaccines for children.
Allan met his wife Tammy in 1964, became engaged one month later and married within a year. Allan and Tammy celebrated 60 years of marriage this past August. Together, they raised 5 daughters outside of Philadelphia and Allan was a compassionate and devoted Zaydie to his 13 grandchildren.
