Donald H. Age 74 years of Warrington, passed away on November 10, 2018
Don was born in New Orleans on March 11, 1944, son of the late Eleanore (ne Weiss) and Dr. Benjamin Sachs.
Beloved husband of Kathie B. Sachs (ne Beck) and loving father of Carl B. Sachs.
Devoted brother to Richard Sachs (Jane) and his sister in-law Tedda Lindeman (Ronald).
Loving uncle to Neal Lindeman (Liz Borowsky), Jennifer Byrnes, Dianna Sachs, and Jeffrey Sachs (Erin Crandall). Great Uncle to Henry and Sarah Lindeman, Hannah and Tommy Byrnes, and Lauren Miriam Crandall Sachs.
Don grew up in Hartford, CT and attended Brandeis University, University of Texas at Austin, and Purdue University where he earned a Ph.D. in Experimental Personality and Social Psychology. Don worked as a marketing and senior technical analyst for Merck, Inc. for over twenty-five years.
He met the love of his life at Purdue University and they were married for over 45 years. Don was a truly rational and objective thinker who loved intellectual discussions and reasoned arguments. He cared deeply about the ethics of rational discourse and shared this with his son, whose intellect and character he influenced over the years with many intense long conversations about history, Judaism, politics, philosophy, and psychology. Don was an avid reader, especially of history, where he was fascinated by the American Civil War and European history. His extensive home library was constantly growing, even on his Kindle Fire when he stopped buying new books. He kept informed with current events by faithfully reading the Sunday New York Times and the many magazines of ideas to which he subscribed.
After retiring from Merck, he and Kathie enjoyed the good life by traveling throughout Europe, taking adult education classes, and attending cultural events. For many years, Kathie and Don enjoyed regular attendance of the Philadelphia Orchestra and Opera Philadelphia. Don had a deep appreciation for classical music -- especially Verdi and Mahler and for contemporary Irish music. He was also a faithful fan of the Philadelphia Eagles (whether they won or lost!). Don's sweetness and sense of decency and honesty will be greatly missed by his loving and cherished family.
