Dena H. Robbins, a dazzling diva of Philadelphia, died peacefully in hospice care at the age of 87 on 8/14/26. Dena lived without a filter and without hesitation, helping to represent Philadelphia to the film industry while leading as a matriarch of Jeweler’s Row. Her fierce candor and formidable self-confidence made her a local legend who could make a friend feel invincible.

Born in Yeadon, Pennsylvania, Dena’s early years transformed a tall, outgoing girl into a fiercely resilient young woman, determined to make a life of her own where excellence was non-negotiable. She briefly attended Temple University but one Summer at seventeen her life would be forever changed. Catching sight of Jerry Robbins, she announced to her friends with total certainty, "I'm going to marry that tall guy." This was the start of a 61-year partnership and the foundation of much of her adult life.

Behind their globe-trotting marriage was a deeply playful dynamic where Jerry served as a performer with Dena as his sharpest muse. This relentless showmanship was all delivered for an audience of one. They matched each other beat for beat. In Elkins Park, Dena and Jerry raised three boys, Jason, Eric, and Gordon, who would all enter the family business where she could keep a close connection. Dena had zero interest in staying in the background and demanded that anything with her name on it should be out in front making waves.

In a crowd she was instantly recognized by her trademark bright burgundy curls and vibrant storytelling. She took immense pride in her work with the Greater Philadelphia Film Office. As Director of Resources, Dena helped to find housing and locations for cast and crew coming to Philly. She delighted in sharing movie preview tickets and knowing the next gossip. When she retired to Florida or spent weekends in Margate she simply brought her signature flair to a sunnier stage. In Naples, Dena ruled the tennis courts, tended a stellar collection of orchids, and surrounded herself with a lively circle of friends who shared her love for a sharp joke, a great party, and a well-poured glass of fortified red wine.

Services were held at Laurel Hill West on 8/17/26. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dena’s memory to the Philadelphia Orchestra.
