Deborah P. Silver (nee Goldberg), age 92, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025. Devoted wife of the late Louis Martin Silver. Loving mother of Shari Buyse (Stephen). Beloved grandmother of Louis Marcel Buyse.
Debbie came from humble beginnings in rural Rockland, De. A case can certainly be made that her independence and unique fiery spirit was cultivated from these beginnings.
Shortly after high school Debbie moved to Philadelphia where she graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, Graduate Hospital School of Medical Technology and worked in this career for the next 13 years.
In 1962 she married Louis Martin Silver, and they moved to Lower Bucks County, and she had her daughter Sharianne in 1965.
Debbie was far from a traditional suburban housewife. In 1977 she became the Legislative Assistant to State Senator Craig Lewis until 1982 and then worked in several different capacities at the Doylestown Courthouse. She worked as a Coordinator of Programs for the Homeless until her retirement.
She served on the Bucks County Commissioners Advisory Council for Women, Planned Parenthood Association of Bucks County, Board of Directors for Maple Leaf Day Care Center, League of Women Voters, Pennsylvania Commission for Women and up until very recently the Free Library of Upper Southampton Board of Trustees. She served as a committee person on the Democratic Committee of Lower Bucks County, attending numerous Democratic Conventions as a delegate and was the Bucks County Campaign Manager for Utah Senator Mo Udall’s Presidential Campaign in 1976 as well as tireless work on many additional campaigns. She never missed working at the polls every election. At the age of 89 she worked a 12-hour day at the polls. Debbie was a committed political activist for many decades.
Debbie loved books, movies, going to the theatre, shopping, talking on the phone and the Phillies! She enjoyed summers at the Pink Flamingo on Long Beach Island and Richboro Swim Club.
She was often referred to as a “spitfire” as she inspired many with her passion, generosity and quick wit. Debbie was one of a kind.
Debbie Silver’s life was a life well lived.
She had a nice run.
