CLIFFORD GROSS

GROSS--Clifford H., passed away on December 6, 2015, peacefully after a long struggle caused by a stroke. Survived by his sister, Clara Jellinek and his niece, Nancy Vizer (George), and son-in- law Solomon Moses. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews Isaac (Eva) Moses, Rebecca Goldberg (Shalom), Jonathan (Becky) Moses and Joshua Vizer (Dr. Alisa), Samantha Herscher (Eric) and seven great grandnephews-nieces. He is survived by his former wife, Alexandra, and stepchildren Inna and Eugene and their children, and he had an especially good grandfather relationship with Charles. His beloved wife, Frances predeceased him after 33 years of a life shared together while he served our country as a Foreign Service Officer in Germany (West), Budapest, Vienna, Paris, Sofia, Teheran and the Soviet Union. Because of his wife's illness he retired from the Foreign Service and resumed working for the State Department. He was a graduate of CCNY, the Russian Institute at Columbia University and Middlebury College. Clifford and Frances supported many charitable enterprises with work and monetary gifts; primary among these was the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and Temple Sinai, both in Washington, DC. He served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific area and Japan during and after World War II. We cherish the memory of his extraordinary good humored jokes and his dedication to the welfare of others. Goldsteins' Rosenberg's Raphael-Sacks.
