
NICKMAN, CLARENCE J., "Whitey", 100 - of North Wales, PA and formerly of Atlantic City, died December 6, 2006 at the Madlyn & Leonard Abramson Residence in North Wales, PA. Mr. Nickman was born in Philadelphia on November 22, 1906 and had been an Atlantic City resident since 1909. He was a 1925 graduate of Atlantic City High School where he was active in various school organizations and was Editor-in-Chief of the "Herald", the monthly school magazine. He attended the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and graduated with honors in 1929. He then attended University of Pennsylvania Law School and graduated in 1932. He was a member of the bars of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and the District of Columbia. He was a member of the Federal Bar Association and of the Tau Epsilon Law Society. He was a charter member and co-founder of the Atlantic Chapter of the Order of De Molay, a junior Masonic Order. During the 1930s, he practiced with law firms in Philadelphia and Atlantic City. He had been active in the Boy Scouts in his youth, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, and in the late 1930s, he became Scoutmaster of the Atlantic City Boy Scout Troop #18. In 1941, he was appointed trial attorney at the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., and in 1943, he was designated a Special Assistant to the Attorney General. He had a long and successful career as a litigator for the Justice Department and for the Treasury Department, traveling the country handling tax and anti-trust prosecutions. In 1962, he received a special award for outstanding performance at the Department of Justice. His principal hobby was extensive world-wide travel, and his favorite vacation retreat was the Spanish island of Mallorca. He was also a serious amateur photographer. He was a brother of the late Dr. E. Harrison Nickman, a prominent Atlantic City pediatrician. He is survived by his nephew Dr. Steven L. Nickman of Brookline, MA and his grand-nephews Peter Nickman of Nutley and Russell Nickman of Baltimore, MD. Services and burial will be private. Funeral arrangements are by Goldsteins' Rosenberg's Raphael Sacks.
