CHARLES JOSEPH on June 3, 2024. Beloved husband of Cathy (nee Zellner); Loving father of Heather Fidler (Michael) and David Stamm; Dear brother of Richard Stamm (Robin); Adoring grandfather of Gloria Stamm. Charles grew up in Wyncote, PA where he attended Cheltenham School from K-12. During his youth he was a member of Wyncote Troop 116 where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout at age 12. This made him one of the youngest Scouts to achieve the rank of Eagle in BSA history, While at CHS, he was co-captain of the undefeated 1967 Suburban 1 wrestling team. He also played saxophone in the band, marching band, orchestra, and stage band. After graduating, he attended East Stroudsburg State College where, on the first day, he met his wife to be, Cathy Zellner. They were married two yrs. later Woodstock weekend in 1969. After a three-year stint with Gimbels where he worked his way up from JR Executive Trainee to be one of the youngest buyers in the corporation, he returned to college, attending LaSalle College.
After graduation, he began his teaching career at Cheltenham HS teaching Social Studies. During his 33 yrs. at his alma mater, he taught Social Studies, Basic Studies, Business, and TV Production. He coached the wrestling team for over 20 yrs., earning the District 1, Suburban 1 Coach of the Year honor in 1991-92. He served as President of the Cheltenham Educators’ Assoc. from 1985-87. He was a class sponsor for the classes of 1986, ’90, ’91, and 94 as well as Student Counsel sponsor for 9 yrs. Stamm started the Cheltenham Television Network on Comcast channel 42. With the help of Comcast’s Ralph Roberts, he secured a grant of $60,000.00 to equip the newly built studio. There he was Executive Producer of the “Eye of the Panther” and CHS Game of the Week”. Upon his retirement, the District named the studio in his honor.
He and his wife moved to Boynton Beach, FL where he played golf and volunteered at Park Vista HS as an assistant wrestling coach, He led a fantastic life. Relatives and friends are invited to Memorial Services, Sunday, 2:30 PM precisely at Goldsteins’ Rosenberg’s Funeral Directors, Inc., 6410 N. Broad St. Phila., PA. Int. Private.
