Charles William Spindler, Jr. "Karl," of Lower Gwynedd, PA passed away at the age of 97 on Saturday October 14, 2017 at Abramson Center in North Wales PA. Karl was born on July 29, 1920 in Philadelphia, the son of Charles Sr. and Louisa (nee Warner). He was the loving husband of Ruth Rosen Spindler with whom he shared over 50 years of marriage. He was the father of Patricia L. Henderson, (ne Spindler), step father to Fredrick Wackenhut III who pre-deceased him and Lynda Wackenhut Wilkes of Clinton, CT.
He leaves three grandsons, Tristan T. Henderson, Garrett S. Wilkes, and Fredrick Wackenhut IV.
Karl was a proud WWII veteran having served in the Army Air Corps in England as a Technical Sergeant and communications specialist. After the war, he attended Drexel University where he earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Electrical Engineering. Over many years and well into his 80's, Karl worked for and consulted with a variety of major companies specializing in fluid mechanics and nuclear energy. This took him to many US East and West coast cities and overseas, but he considered himself a Philadelphian throughout his productive life. He was a lover of classical music, opera and historical non-fiction, a dedicated photographer, an active gardener, at home carpenter, and a lifetime British car enthusiast.
He will be remembered for his brilliance, cheerful disposition, his cooperative and optimistic spirit and his willingness to accept with dignity whatever adversity he was faced with.
He always looked forward to tomorrow and hoped for a more peaceful world for his grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the NHSPCA in Stratham, NH to support his love of animals or a charity of your choice.
