Charles H. Shuman, of Philadelphia, died unexpectedly March 30, 2026, at age 72.
Pre-deceased by parents Nathan and Bessie Shuman and survived by sister Andrea Freedman (Jay), sister Dena McKinley (late husband Ken), and brother Stephen Shuman (Marty McCusker), along with numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews all of whom he loved and who loved him as well.
He was a graduate of Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania with undergraduate and graduate degrees in mathematics, along with computer science and engineering. He then devoted his career to teaching mathematics and statistics for 50 years to thousands of college students at Philadelphia area universities including Drexel, Temple, Penn State, and Widener, where he was described by his students as kind, caring, generous with his time, quick with a joke, and a great teacher who really wanted his students to succeed.
His family, devoted neighbors, friends, and colleagues will remember him the same way -- for his exceptional kindness, generosity, care and concern for others, and delight in bad jokes, puns, and riddles. He will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be private and a celebration of his life will be planned later. Donations in his memory may be made to Widener University, https://give.widener.edu/
