Charles M. Golden, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on February 2, 2024. Born in Philadelphia in 1936 to Jack and Frieda Golden, Charles “Chick”, was a true Philadelphia story. He was a proud graduate of Central High School Class 202, The University of Pennsylvania Wharton School 1958, and Temple University School of Law 1961. Chick married his high school sweetheart Norma (née Wolov) in June 1958. They spent 65 loving years together and raised three daughters in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Chick practiced law in Philadelphia for over 63 years. Most recently, he was a former partner and head of the Bankruptcy Department at Obermayer Rebmann Maxwell and Hippel. He also served on the Executive Committee for the Eastern Bankruptcy Conference and was a former owner of Oxford Hospital. Chick was an avid golfer and served as past president of Meadowlands Country Club and more recently a member at Bala Golf Club. Chick was a big personality and had an even larger than life smile. He radiated positivity when he walked into a room and was beloved by his family, his work colleagues and at almost every restaurant in Philadelphia. He was the unofficial “Mayor” of Philadelphia - as he walked down Walnut Street people from all walks of life would greet him or call out “Hi Chick” or ask for advice.
He will be desperately missed by his wife Norma, his daughters Beth Frieder (Jonathan), Abby Shapiro (Jay) and Jill Tarnow. The jewels in his crown were his 8 grandchildren: Alison (Alex Lowy), Jessica, Robby, Lizzie, Andrew, Hannah, Julia and Caroline. He is survived by his aunt, Gertrude Gelman. Chick leaves behind countless friends who adored him and his legendary attitude, comic comments and love that will be felt for generations.
