Carol Rhea Wasserman Spiewak, beloved mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in New Hope, Pennsylvania, on December 15th, 2024. Born on September 21st, 1951 in Manhattan, New York, Carol's 73 years were marked by her warmth, generosity, courage, intelligence, determination, and inspiring leadership. She was loved by all who knew her.
Carol's life was a rich tapestry of roles and accomplishments. She was the Vice President of Software Development for the New York Stock Exchange. She led the team charged with getting the Exchange back up and running after the attack on September 11, 2001. In her retirement she focused on her lifelong passion for humanitarian and political causes. Carol was an important leader of the Solebury and Bucks County Democratic Party and was the Chief of the Staff for Tim Brennan, PA State Representative. She was also a talented banjo player who was part of many bands over the course of her life.
Carol is survived by her beloved daughter Melissa (Dennis) Panthel-Bench, stepsons Jason (Sara) Spiewak and David Spiewak, grandchildren Isabelle Cavallo, Jacob Spiewak, and Maya Spiewak, sister Pamela (Robert) Garfield, nieces and nephews Daniel Garfield, Jesse (Lauren) Alson-Milkman and Rebecca (Craig) Alson-Milkman. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Michael Spiewak, her sister Sheila Alson, and parents Irving and Rosaline Wasserman.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday December 18th at Goldstein's Rosenberg's Funeral Directors Suburban North, located at 310 2nd Street Pike Southampton, PA 18966. Visitors are asked to arrive by 9:00am, service will begin precisely at 9:30am. Following the service, burial will take place at New Montefiore Cemetery at 2:00pm, located at 1180 Wellwood Ave. West Babylon, NY 11704. You are welcome to join us for a shiva call to remember and honor Carol at her late residence from, Thursday December 19th 2:00pm to 5:00pm, Friday December 20th 4:00pm to 7:00pm, and Saturday December 21st, 10:00am to 1:00pm.
