Bernice "Butzy" Cohen

Bernice "Butzy" Cohen, age 98, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 18, 2025. Butzy was born and raised and spent her life in Philadelphia; the youngest of four children to Sarah and Nathan Lewis.

Butzy married Sam Cohen, a WW2 Veteran, in 1947, and they celebrated 75 years together when Sam died in 2023.

Butzy and Sam cherished their beautiful family - their 2 daughters, Marlene (Barry) Balik, Jill (Jeff) Bucholtz; their 3 grandchildren were the joys of their lives: Reuben (Sammi) Balik, Paul (Rebecca) Balik, and Ilana (Edward) Kopania. They were blessed with 5 great-grandchildren; Benjamin, Kayla, Maya, Sage, and Joshua.

Butzy devoted her entire life to her family and friends; she was always there for everyone.

Relatives and friends are invited to Graveside Services on Tuesday, May 20, 10:00 AM precisely at Roosevelt Memorial Park (Section U), 2701 Old Lincoln Hwy, Treevose PA 19053. Shiva to follow at The Bucholtz residence. A Shiva in Chicago will be planned. Donations in Butzy's memory can be made to your charity of choice.
