Barry Alan Lapides

Barry Alan Lapides passed away on Friday, July 25th at Jefferson University Hospital, surrounded by his closest loved ones. Barry was the proud patriarch of our beautiful, blended family and has been a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, friend, mentor and so much more to all of us. He is survived by his devoted wife, Marlene (nee Mazurek); his beloved children, Michael (Elisha), Carrie, Farrah (David), Michelle (Ian), Cory (Jen), and Bret, and many adored grandchildren who simply know him as Pop Pop. He is also survived by his brother, Ron (Ilysa) Lapides, and his cousin Jay Lapides as well as countless dear friends, neighbors, and colleagues. Barry was preceded in death by his parents, Goldie and Lefty, and his cherished wife, Ellen.

Barry was born August 1,1949 in Northeast Philadelphia. He was a graduate of Northeast High School, after which he enrolled in the United States Army Reserves, serving our country proudly. He was a respected entrepreneur, starting and running his Company HBI Inc, for several decades, creating a successful family business which he then passed down to his son Michael. He was a creature of habits, Summers in Margate, where he took his morning bike rides and Winters in Florida, meeting at Dunkin and playing softball games with his Delray Beach buddies.

Barry will be remembered for his big heart, incredible work ethic, his quick sense of humor, strong sense of family, his silly Pop-Pop face, and of course his undying loyalty to the Birds. Funeral services will take place on Monday, July 28th at Goldsteins’ Rosenberg's Funeral Directors Suburban North at 11:30 am. The family will sit shiva at the residence of Marlene Lapides on Monday 7/28 and Tuesday 7/29 starting at 3:00pm. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
